What to Expect?

What type of help do I need?
Many people wonder, ‘what type of psychological therapist will be helpful for me, and what’s the difference between them?!’ This blog outlines the different types of therapists and explains a bit about each, which can be helpful when you’re trying to decide what you’re looking for:

What to expect from a session?
It’s common for people to be nervous or distressed when coming along for a first session. You’re coming to meet a person you’ve never met and to talk about things in a way you may not have done before. I very much understand this and hope to help put you at ease.
It’s part of my role to assist you to tell me what you’re looking for. We can then explore this together, as a team, to understand what’s going on for you and make a plan about what we can do to help.
Often people find this assessment (or sense-making) part of the work to be powerful and extremely helpful. Some people find this in itself is enough, whilst others choose to continue on with psychological therapy in order to heal old wounds or to learn new tools and strategies to change things in the here and now.
We would agree together what you'd like from sessions and how many sessions you'd like to have. Some difficulties might not require many sessions whereas others can be more complex and take much longer.

What you share with me is confidential, so I won't share it with anyone unless you give me permission to do so. This changes if I am worried that you might harm yourself or someone else, in which case I would have a duty of care which may lead to me having to breach confidentiality.

Sessions last for 50 minutes and are held in The Wellbeing Rooms, Bearsden. Many people feel more comfortable knowing what a place looks like before attending. You can see more about the venue, including pictures of the rooms, here:

I hope this has been helpful but if you've questions please do ask and I'll try to help.
